Ericsson Introduces New PLF 5166 Power Supply

Ericsson (Sweden) has developed the PLF 5166 ac/dc power supply. Ericsson claims the supply provides 70 percent more power than previous models, within the same 60mm wide 6U case at the same cost. The power supply uses a two-stage topology, with active power-factor correction, to deliver a power factor of more than 0.95 combined with high efficiency over a wide input range. Specified for operation from 90Vac to 275Vac, and from 45Hz to 65Hz, the 1,200W unit is the first in the new PLF 5100 Series and is claimed to deliver more than 90-percent efficiency from 50 to 100 percent of a rated load. The power supply is designed to provide high power density, front-end distributed power in applications such as datacom, telecom and industrial systems.

The output voltage of the PLF 5166 is factory set to 54.50V +/-100mV and may be remotely adjusted. It is designed to deliver constant power at any voltage from 44V to 58.5V. A range of alarms and remote-control facilities is provided with options for fiber optic or electrical interfacing. All connections are brought to the front panel of the PLF 5166 to provide maximum flexibility when configuring or upgrading systems, and to simplify hot-swapping.

The PLF 5100 Series features a true wide-range input stage and according to the company delivers a guaranteed 1,200W from 180Vac to 275Vac and 1,000W down to 90Vac input. Ripple is less than 20mVrms, (2mV psophometrically weighed), with less than 0.3-percent static regulation from 0- to 100-percent full load and +/-5 percent dynamic regulation within 100ms for +/-25 percent load change. The unit is isolated to 1,500Vac, and is designed for force-cooled applications. The PLF 5166 complies with a wide range of international standards for EMC performance, including EN 55022, ETS 300, CFR 47 and EN61000.

The PLF will be priced at $579 in quantities of 100 and stock samples are currently available.
