Fairchild Semiconductor Premieres FAN1537 Series of LDO Regulators

May 16, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Fairchild Semiconductor (San Jose, CA) premiered a new series of dual LDO voltage regulators for hard disk drives, CD-ROM and CD-R drives, DVD players, switching power supplies and other computer peripheral applications. The dual-regulator FAN1537 Series offers 12 part numbers in three basic models, each of which provides one fixed 3.3V output and a second output of either 2.5V (FAN1537A), 1.8V (FAN1537C) or a user-adjustable voltage output (FAN1537B).

The FAN1537 Series is offered in both the SPAK package and a SO-8 configuration. It offers functionality equivalent to two FAN1117 regulators in a single 5-lead SPAK package. All models provide a 1A maximum output current rating for both regulators, on-chip thermal overload limiting, and short-circuit protection. Fairchild claims that the devices exhibit excellent transient response/ripple rejection. Other performance characteristics include a typical low dropout voltage of 1.1V at 1A, typical load regulation of 0.05 percent, and noise rejection of minimum 60dB.

All FAN1537A, B and C Series models come in either tube or tape-and-reel packs of 95 and 2,500 pieces, respectively. They are priced at $0.81 in 1,000-piece quantities and are currently available. Delivery of production quantities is in seven to eight weeks ARO.
