Tripp Lite Intros iUPS Power Protection System

August 22, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Tripp Lite (Chicago, IL) recently introduced the iUPS power protection system designed to color-coordinate with Apple's iMac computers. The iUPS features the popular blueberry-colored housing that coordinates with the iMac's appearance and color scheme. The six ac outlets of the iUPS are arranged in a split outlet design, with three outlets providing battery backup and surge protection and three providing surge-only protection. According to Tripp Lite, this allows the iUPS to supply battery backup to a CPU, monitor and one other peripheral while furnishing surge protection to power-hungry equipment such as laser printers. The 280VA of battery backup is designed to give users ample time to save open files and shut down their PCs in the event of a blackout. The iUPS also includes built-in RJ11/45 jacks to protect the iMac's internal high-speed modem. It is designed to suppress surges that travel telephone and Ethernet lines. According to Tripp Lite, the iUPS, which weighs 4.5 pounds, is the smallest, lightest multi-outlet UPS available in its class. Its cabinet is designed to fit under or on top of any desktop and also includes key-hole brackets for wall mounting. The iUPS has a suggested retail price of $107 and includes $25,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance covering all connected equipment against surges, including direct lightening strikes, for life.
