Reverse-blocking, pFET Integrated Power Controllers

April 25, 2016 by Jeff Shepard

Silego Technology announced an expansion of its pFET integrated power controller portfolio with a new family of self-powered, 1.6 mm², single-channel and dual-channel very low-power controllers with reverse-current protection. Designed for all high-side, 1.5V to 5.5V power rail applications, these new pFET power controllers achieve an ultra-stable 23mΩ RDSON over temperature. Using Silego's proprietary CuFET™ technology, these new products can handle load currents up to 4A and exhibit low thermal resistance.

The reverse-current protection feature is very useful in applications where a VOUT-to-VIN backfeed current to the VIN power source is to be avoided. Compared to other pFET load switches currently available in the market, these new Silego’s controller products combine higher-performance lower RDSON pFET structures, lower supply current operation, and multiple protection features into very pcb space-efficient solutions.

Using Silego’s proprietary p-channel MOSFET design IP, these new additions to its high-performance pFET integrated power switches include four dual-channel, 2-A devices and one single-channel, 4-A device. Designed to operate over the industrial -40 to 85 degrees C temperature range, these new micropower, pFET integrated power control switches are available in a RoHS-compliant 1.0 x 1.6 mm package.

Key features included in this new family of high-performance, dual-channel 2A & single-channel 4A pFET power control products are: Built-in, System-level Features including Reverse-voltage Detection, Fixed VOUT Slew Rates from 1µs to 1ms, 125 degrees C Thermal Shutdown Protection, Fast VOUT Discharge (SLG59H1638V & SLG59M1640V), and Open-drain ("FAULT" ) Signaling (SLG59M1649V)

Target applications addressed by these new devices include: General-purpose, High-side Power-Rail Control including WLAN Modules and Cards, Solid-state Drives (SSDs), High-definition Digital Cameras, Smartphones/Wireless Handsets, Set-top Boxes, and Notebook/Laptop/Tablet PCs; Portable Navigation and GPS Devices; Point of Sales Pins.
