Semtech Introduces the SRV05-4 Transient-Voltage Suppressor

June 28, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Semtech Corp. (Newbury Park, CA) announced the SRV05-4 four-channel, low-capacitance, transient-voltage suppressor (TVS) protection array, the newest addition to its RailClamp TVS product family. Applications for the SRV05-4 include monitors and flat-panel displays, video graphics cards, cellular phone SIM ports, notebook computers, hand-held computers and PDAs, as well as high-speed data lines and digital video interfaces.

The SRV05-4 features a typical capacitance of 3pF, permitting communication rates of 1GHz. The arrays come in SOT-23 6L surface-mount packages, occupying less than 1.5sqmm of board space. The SRV05-4 offers a 5V working voltage and ESD protection of over 15kV. The SRV05-4 incorporates eight surge-rated, low-capacitance steering devices and an on-chip, avalanche TVS RailClamp in a single package. The array allows users to protect four high-speed data or transmission lines.

“Until now, designers have been forced to use inadequate protection schemes due to capacitance constraints,” said Tom Dugan, direct of marketing for protection products at Semtech. “The SRV05-4 represents an unmatched solution in terms of performance and preservation of signal integrity.”

Evaluation samples of the SRV05-4 are currently available. Pricing begins at $0.48 in production of 10,000 units. The devices are packaged in tape-and-reel.
