ON Semi Intros SmartDiscrete Power MOSFETs

June 29, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

ON Semiconductor Corp. (Phoenix, AZ) introduced a new family of self-protected SmartDiscrete™ devices for demanding automotive and industrial applications that feature an advanced level of integration made possible by the company's HDPlus™ wafer process. A selection of integration features are offered, ranging from actively clamped, ESD-protected replacement for the commonly utilized 3055 MOSFET, to fully self-protected MOSFETs with current and temperature limit capabilities.

The NID9N05CL, NIF9N05CL, NIF62514, NID5001N, NIF5002N, NIF5003N and NID5003N devices are low-side, self-clamped, 46V, 48 to 185 milliohm MOSFETs with integrated current-limit, over-temperature shut-down, over-voltage and electrostatic discharge protection. The HDPlus™ wafer process enables a monolithic design that optimizes performance across a wide temperature range.

The NID9N05CL, NIF9N05CL, NIF62514, NID5001N, NIF5002N, NIF5003N and NID5003N devices are offered in low-cost, space-saving, SOT-223 and DPAK surface-mount packages. Pricing for the new devices ranges from $0.22 to $0.73 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.
