QuantumSphere Inc. (Santa Ana, CA), a manufacturer of metallic nanopowders for fuel cell and battery industry applications, announced a deal with US Modular (Irvine, CA), a manufacturer of personal memory and storage products, to develop high-performance batteries for consumer electronic equipment. The deal between the two technology companies will spawn the next generation of high-performance, low-cost batteries to fit the trend of smaller, lightweight products for the portable marketplace.
QuantumSphere and US Modular will develop high-performance, small form-factor, low-cost, universal portable batteries for laptops, MP3 players, cell phones, and the next generation of media players. There are several advantages of using metallic materials, one being that the life of the battery will be extended and the weight of the product goes down significantly.
