Magna-Power Electronics Introduces the SQ Series of Rack-Mounted Power Supplies

October 15, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Magna-Power Electronics Inc. (Boonton, NJ) introduced the SQ Series, a series of high-density, rack-mounted, dc switching power supplies ranging from 13.3kW to 30kW. The series features 50 models with Vdcs running the gamut from 16Vdc to 625Vdc, and Adc spanning 21Adc to 1,800Adc.

Magna-Power maintains that the SQ Series of power supplies are fully programmable via resistance, voltage, current, or optional IEEE-488/RS232. The units also allow programming of over-voltage and over-current protection. Program lines are designed to constantly monitor for range of operation and, if a line should open or if a programmable input is set beyond that anticipated, the unit safely shuts down, protecting the load.

The SQ Series is designed to operate as a voltage source or current source depending on the control settings and load conditions. All diagnostic functions are monitored with optical isolators that can be paralleled. Furthermore, control functions are also set through optical isolators in order to allow simultaneous control of one or more SQ Series units.

Programming switches in the rear of the supply enable the internal operation of controls, external operation or both. The SQ Series supplies have three levels of over-voltage and over-current protection, including the shutdown of controlling IGBTs, the disconnection of main power, and an optional SCR crowbar.
