Infineon Intros New Generation of High-Current PROFETs

August 25, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Infineon Technologies Corp. (San Jose, CA) introduced the first devices in a new generation of high-side, High-Current PROFET intelligent power switches. The new devices offer high thermal ratings and an Rds(on) of 2.5milliohms, and are capable of handling continuous amp load currents of 100A or more (450A inrush), according to Infineon.Like Infineon's recently announced miniPROFETs, the High-Current PROFETs contain a MOSFET power transistor plus all the circuit elements for built-in protection. The High-Current PROFET family features a breakdown voltage range of 42V to 60V and an Rds(on) range of 2.5 to 16 milliohms. The new devices also feature a proportional current sense output with programmable current limit, providing protection against overcurrent and eliminating the need for a fuse. The intelligent power devices are priced from $2.88 for the BTS443P (16mOhm) in D-PAK, $4.33 for the BTS650P (6mOhm) in 7-pin SOT-220, and $4.77 for the BTS660 (9mOhm) in 7-pin SOT-220, all in quantities of 10,000. The BTS550P (4mOhm) and BTS555 (2.5mOhm) are $6.01 and $7.53 in a 5-pin TO218 package, also in quantities of 10,000.
