AVX Introduces New Low-Profile E Core Series

September 20, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

AVX Corp. (Myrtle Beach, SC) announced its new low-profile E Core Series ferrite planar cores specifically designed for use in switch-mode power supply (SMPS), industrial power supply and telecom applications.

These low-profile planar cores exhibit excellent thermal characteristics and provide higher power density. Designed in a high-frequency material (F2), these planar cores are formulated for minimum power loss at frequencies above 100kHz. This F2 material allows for a reduced size in higher speed dc/dc converters.

"The low-profile E Core Series features excellent electrical characteristics, making these planar cores ideal for switch-mode power supply applications (SMPS)," said AVX product manager Vaughn Viles. "The F2 material used offers extremely low power loss in all ranges of optimized frequencies, specifically at temperatures higher than 90 degrees C."

The E Core Series is designed primarily for transformers in SMPS applications, and are also used in communication systems, industrial power supplies and automotive applications.

Pricing for the E Core Series starts at $0.23 in OEM quantities with immediate availability.
