March 13, 2011 by Jeff Shepard

AEG Power Solutions (AEG PS), wholly-owned by 3W Power Holdings S.A., announced what it describes as a strengthening of its position in the engineering of photovoltaic solutions with the acquisition of OpciónDos.

Founded in 2005, Madrid-based OpciÓnDos has developed an expertise in integrating photovoltaic technologies into the built-in environment. Their know-how and engineering capacity have made them a specialist of complex rooftops installations in industrial and commercial environments.

Commenting on the acquisition, Enrique de la Cruz, said: "As we are growing rapidly on the solar market, it’s essential for AEG Power Solutions to also strengthen our team. Opción Dos brings us their know-how in integrating high-end photovoltaic technologies. It’s a skilled team whose addition is really valuable for our business.

OpciónDos also opens for us a strategic market segment we had started to develop in the US but not yet in Europe: built-in Photovoltaic solutions. This also creates synergies with our product portfolio of solar inverters and monitoring and supervision systems in high-end industrial and commercial applications."

Managing Directors and Founders Gregory Lukens and Luis M. García of OpciónDos comment: "Joining AEG Power Solutions is a tremendous opportunity for OpciónDos to apply its expertise acquired in the Spanish market to now an international level. AEG Power Solutions is the perfect partner for us, allowing us to develop our growth strategies to as many markets as AEG Power Solution is present"

In the acquisition process, Eclareon has acted as strategic and financial advisor to AEG Power Solutions. As David Pérez, partner of Eclareon, remarked "The PV industry is consolidating. This transaction confirms the good moment to acquire valuable players. Our specialisation in the renewables market puts us in a privileged position to successfully advice our clients in transactions like this"

OpciónDos will be a dedicated unit within the Solar SBU (Strategic Business Unit) of AEG Power Solutions.
