30: EPC Dev. Board Features Optimal Layout of Paralleled GaN FETs for Higher Currents

Efficient Power Conversion Corporation (EPC) has introduced the EPC9017 half-bridge development board for high-current, high step-down voltage, buck intermediate bus converter (IBC) applications using eGaN FETs. In this application two low-side (synchronous rectifier) FETs are connected in parallel since they will be conducting for a much longer period compared to the single high-side (Control) FET. eGaN FETs have superior current sharing capability compared to silicon MOSFETs, making them more attractive for parallel operation. This development board expands upon EPC's work on optimal layout based on ultra-low inductance packages. more

After the successful launch of the HVG(C)-100 (100W) series LED power supplies, Mean Well has announced the more powerful HVG(C)-150 series of 150W ac-dc high input voltage LED power supply, in order to fulfill the higher wattage requirements for LED lighting applications. Compared with HVG(C)-100, the input voltage range of HVG(C)-150 had been increased to 180~528Vac, thus, they are fit for the general 230Vac main input, and also can be operated under 347/440/480Vac input in USA, Japan, and Canada. more

28: TDK-Lambda Expands 1.6kW Series of Front-End Power Supplies with 32V Model

TDK Corporation has expanded its TDK-Lambda HFE1600 range of 1.6kW high-density, front end power supplies with the addition of a 32V model. Particularly well-suited for use in broadcast applications, the HFE1600-32 operates from a universal 85 to 265Vac input, and the high efficiency of up to 92% minimizes heat dissipation and power consumption thus meeting Climate Savers Computing efficiency standards. The HFE1600-32 is equally well-suited for use in applications including communications, servers, lasers, and process controls. more

27: 600V GaN Normally-Off “Gate Injection” Power Transistor Intro’d by Panasonic

Panasonic Corporation has developed a Gallium Nitride (GaN) -based power transistor with a blocking voltage of 600V which "enables stable switching operations." Panasonic began shipping evaluation samples at the end of March. The schedule for full production has not been announced. According to the company, failure-free operations by 600V GaN power transistors are confirmed for the first time. Tentative specifications for production devices is: Threshold voltage of 1.2V; Blocking voltage of 600V; Drain current (continuous) rated for 15A; On-state resistance of 65mΩ; and Gate charge of 11nC. more

26: TI Invents Inductance-to-Digital Converter Category for Position and Motion Sensing

Texas Instruments, Inc. (TI) today unveiled the industry's first inductance-to-digital converter (LDC), a new data converter category that uses coils and springs as inductive sensors to deliver higher resolution, increased reliability, and greater flexibility than existing sensing solutions at a lower system cost. Inductive sensing is a contactless sensing technology that can be used to measure the position, motion, or composition of a metal or conductive target, as well as detect the compression, extension or twist of a spring. more

25: IXYS Introduces an Anode-Gated Thyristor Technology Platform

IXYS Corporation announced today a new Anode-Gated Thyristor (AGT) technology platform. The first product derived from this new technology platform is the CLB30I1200HB, a 30A, 1200V single thyristor in a TO-247 discrete package. The gate control of the CLB30I1200HB is connected to the anode side of the silicon die instead of to the cathode side, as done in a standard thyristor. more

23: Dual Thyristor -Triac Technology Platform Introduced by IXYS

IXYS Corporation has introduced a new “Dual Thyristor -Triac” technology platform (DT-Triac). Triacs are known as best in class for AC power control, providing better power density in numerous power system applications. However, traditional triacs have been limited to lower currents and lower voltages, and with low levels of dv/dt and di/dt ratings. The DT-Triac has the same functionality as the standard triac but with higher di/dt and dv/dt ratings. This contributes to more robust devices together with the long-term stability of blocking voltage and higher current capability. more

22: Precisely Measure DC Current from 3 mA to 500 A from -40 °C to +125 °C

Sendyne Corp. has introduced the SFP100EVB, a turnkey module for precision measurement of current, voltage and temperature. Operating in the automotive temperature range of -40 °C to +125 °C, the module simultaneously measures bi-directional dc current through a 100 micro-Ohm resistive shunt, voltage and temperature at 4 points. The module is capable of resolving currents from 3mA to 513A within a single continuous measurement range (without sub-ranging or gain switching), with uniform resolution of 61µA, and performs automatic charge accumulation for built-in precision Coulomb counting. more

21: Cosel Adds GHA Series Industrial 3X5 AC-DC Single-Output Power Supplies

Cosel Co. Ltd. has announced the introduction of its new 3-inch by 5-inch series of power supplies, the GHA series. The GHA300/500 is an industrial and medical power supply family delivering 300W or 500W, depending on the model. This high power density series includes medical safety approval (EN60601-1, ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1). The GHA300 has a high power density of 14.3W/cu. inch and the GHA500 has a power density of 24.1W/cu. inch. The GHA300 can be operated with forced air or convection cooling. The GHA500 can operate with convection cooling, forced air or a unique conductive cooling system. more
