250W Dual-Output Encapsulated RIA12 DC-DCs

August 18, 2016 by Jeff Shepard

The RWR 252-P400 series of fully-encapsulated, dual-output, railway quality dc-dc converters from Absopulse Electronics deliver up to 250W. The units meet the requirements of EN50155 for electronic equipment used on rolling stock. With an input surge withstand capability of 3.5Vn for 20 msec, they meet RIA12, the general specification for the protection of traction and rolling stock equipment from transients and surges in dc control systems.

Wide EN50155 input ranges include 24Vdc (14.4- to 34-Vdc), 36Vdc (22- to 51-Vdc), 48Vdc (29- to 67-Vdc), 72Vdc (43- to 101-Vdc), 96Vdc (58- to 135-Vdc) or 110Vdc (66- to 154-Vdc). Outputs V1 and V2 each provide 12-, 24-, 36-, 48- or 125-Vdc. Custom input and output voltages are available on request.

The RWR 252-P400 converters are equipped with heavy filtering on the input and output and comply with EN50121-3-2. They also meet EN61000-4-2 (ESD), EN61000-4-3 (RF Immunity), EN61000-4-4 (Fast Transients), EN61000-4-6 (Conducted Immunity) and EN45545.

The units are encapsulated with a thermally conductive MIL-grade silicon rubber compound with a UL94V-0 flammability rating. They also meet environmental criteria as specified in MIL-810C, D. This ensures immunity to high levels of shock and vibration, moisture, and other contaminants. Conduction cooling via base plate to customer heat-sink or chassis enables operation over a -40 to +70 degrees C temperature range for full specification - no derating is required.
