24Vdc UPS Combines Capacitor and Battery Storage

November 10, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

In today's digital-dependent environment, power fluctuations and failures represent lost revenue and productivity for most companies. A new range of modular Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) from Weidmüller Interface GmbH & Co. KG offers secure and reliable protection against these incoming power faults for 24Vdc applications. This UPS line expands Weidmüller's high-security power supply options with a wide range of configurations and modular construction, providing users with a high level of scalable solutions for their applications.

The new UPS line includes control units, buffer modules and battery modules. The control units feature status relays for status monitoring, and provide direct switchover to the battery modules when a supply outage is detected, and automatic reconnection to the load when power recovers.

The control unit, together with the battery module and power supply, offer a complete, scalable DC UPS system for loads up to 40A and with batteries capacities up to 17Ah. The buffer module offers a solution for bridging short-term power supply failures for dips of up to 100 ms. Its capacitor-based technology provides maintenance-free operation for up to 10 years.

Weidmuller’s UPS system features a variety of configurations and options that enable users to size the system to meet their application needs. With accessories that include diode modules, buffers and capacity modules, it offers security and redundancy options for protection of their critical loads. Standard features include status outputs to update the user, and temperature-optimized charging to maximize battery life and system reliability. Approvals include TUV, cULus, CE and GL.
