Zetex Announces New ZXCD1000 Amplifier Controller IC

August 16, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Zetex Inc. (Hauppauge, NY) announced its new ZXCD1000 Class D switching amplifier controller IC, which offers a combination of high efficiency, small size and very low cost per watt, according to the company.

Zetex claims the efficiency is greater than 90 percent and allows the amplifier controller IC to be offered in a compact, thermally enhanced, 16-pin package. The overall Class D amplifier solution generates much less heat than comparable Class, AB or B linear amplifiers, which would typically have an efficiency of only 50 to 65 percent.

The ZXCD1000 offers a total harmonic distortion and noise rating of typically 0.2 percent open-loop, or typically <0.1 percent with a 10dB feedback loop. Zetex also offers reference designs that specify all component specifications, including the filter magnetics, specifically optimized to the system requirements and now supplied as standard components by major inductor houses. A range of reference designs are currently available up to 100W RMS output power.

The ZXCD is offered in 10,000-piece units for $1.50 each. Samples and startup quantities are available from stock, and production volumes are from six to eight weeks.
