XPiQ Intros KIE014 Series Eighth-Brick Converters

December 28, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

XPiQ Inc. (Holliston, MA), a worldwide manufacturer and supplier of ac-dc and dc-dc power supply products, introduced its new KIE014 Series of 14 A, eighth-brick, intermediate bus converters that reduce board space requirements by 38%. The open-frame KIE014 Series uses advanced synchronous rectification technologies to achieve efficiencies up to 94%, reducing heat dissipation, improving component and system level reliability, and reducing airflow requirements.

The KIE014 converter is suitable for powering non-isolated, point-of load converters within an intermediate bus distributed power architecture. The intermediate bus architecture offers substantial reduction of power component costs when compared with traditional distributed power architectures. High efficiency is achieved by reducing switching losses through the use of a proprietary driver integrated circuit within a smart dc transformer. This also minimizes component count, further contributing to reliability of more than 2.7 million hours.

The KIE014 measures 0.89 in x 0.417 in x 2.30 in and weighs 25.5 g. It is available now priced at $39 each for 1,000 pieces.
