XPiQ Debuts PCM120 AC-DC Medical Power Supply

August 31, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

XPiQ Inc. (Holliston, MA), a worldwide manufacturer and supplier of ac-dc and dc-dc power supply products, announced its new PCM120, a 120 W, high-efficiency, ac-dc external power supply for medical applications. Measuring 3.74 in x 7.08 in x 1.85 in (95 mm x 180 mm x 47 mm), the single-output PCM120 features 4,000 Vac isolation (input-to-output) and a safety ground-leakage current of less than 300 µA at 240 Vac. Both line and neutral are fused and it is approved to international medical safety standards.

The power supply achieves 85% efficiency through utilizing zero-voltage switching, so heat generation is minimized, and has integral power-factor correction to EN61000-3-2. Weight is approximately 1.88 lbs (860 g). The PCM120 has a universal ac input (90 Vac to 264 Vac at 47 Hz to 63 Hz) and output voltages are 12 Vdc, 15 Vdc, 18 Vdc, 24 Vdc or 48 Vdc. Output connection is via an eight-pin DIN plug, but other options are available to order.

Line and load regulation are ±1% and ±3%, respectively, and there is no minimum load requirement. Ripple and noise are limited to a maximum of 100 mV peak-to-peak. The power supply has built-in over-voltage and over-current protection; operates with convection cooling in ambient temperatures from 0 °C to +40 °C; and meets all major international safety, EMC and ESD specifications.

The PCM120 is now available and is priced at $78.40 each for 1,000-plus units.
