Xanoptix Presents "Inside-Out" Heatsink

February 13, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Xanoptix Inc. (Merrimack, NH) introduced an "inside-out" heatsink that features a multitude of intersecting passageways that allows air or fluid to flow from a number of directions. The structure enables the heatsink to exhibit 40 percent greater heat dissipation and a 50 percent reduction in weight than conventional heatsinks that utilize the same materials and dimensions. The "inside-out" structure of the heatsink is also claimed to provide a bigger surface area and more than twice the mechanical stiffness of traditional heatsinks.
