world's thinnest coin battery

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. (Japan) announced that its Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd. subsidiary has developed what it claims is the world's thinnest coin battery. According to the company, the battery has a thickness of 0.4mm and is thin enough for use in IC cards. The battery can be used as a power source for think card devices including contactless smart cards, cards with video capabilities, audio cards and cards for automatic highway toll systems. Production of the batteries is planned to begin in the spring of 2000 with a monthly output rate of 300,000 units.
