Westcor Premiers the PFC Mega PAC-EL AC Power Supply

August 13, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Westcor, a division of Vicor (Andover, MA), has introduced the PFC Mega PAC-EL, which is called the Quiet MegaPAC, for high-power, ultra-low noise and linear-like applications. The PFC MegaPAC-EL is a field-configurable, PFC ac input, switching power supply that provides from 1 to 16 outputs and a maximum of 1,600W of output power. Typical differential noise is 10mVp-p or less. This compact power supply measures 15.5" x 6.0" x 3.4" and provides high-power density of more than 10W per cubic inch.

The 1.6kW PFC MegaPAC-EL is designed for test and measurement equipment, especially mixed-signal testers and other systems requiring low noise at high-current levels. Current sharing is available for higher-power applications. The PFC MegaPAC-EL, which is an extended version of the PFC MegaPAC, uses a single slot and a slide-in ConverterPAC. Each utilizes first-generation Vicor Series modules; one QPAC-L with VI-200 for one to eight outputs or a DualQPAC-DL with two VI-J00s for 1 to 16 outputs.

They are available in voltages from 2Vdc to 95Vdc and provide power up to 200W. Pricing of the 1.6W PFC MegaPAC-EL is $0.96 per watt in quantities of 100. It is available with standard lead time.
