Vishay Siliconix Releases the Si91860 Smart Regulator

August 08, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA) announced that its subsidiary, Siliconix Inc. (Santa Clara, CA), has released the new Si91860 400mA smart regulator that combines an automatic voltage regulation with an integrated design that requires only four external components.

The Si91860 is a dual-input linear regulator designed to automatically switch between 5Vin or 5Vsb input voltages to a fixed 3.3V output. When neither of the 5V inputs is present, the power is drawn through the bypass switch from the third 3.3V input auxiliary input, with a 55mV drop at a 150mA load.

The device provides a minimum peak output current of 600mA and is capable of carrying at least 400mA of continuous load current under any power-input condition. Additional features include integrated short-circuit and thermal-shutdown protection circuitry. The Si91860 is suitable for use in notebook and desktop computers. It is packaged in an SOIC-8 rated for the full -40 to 85 degrees C industrial temperature range.

Samples and production quantities of the Si91860 are currently available, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders. Pricing for US delivery in 25,000-piece quantities is $0.95.
