Vishay Releases the Sprague 591D-2mm Series of Capacitors

July 29, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA) has released a new series of low-profile, solid, tantalum chip capacitors that it claims offers the industry's lowest ESR ratings among comparable devices. The Vishay Sprague 591D-2mm Series is designed for use in compact communications and computing systems, including consumer and high-end portable palmtops and notebook and desktop PCs.

As the latest addition to Vishay's Tantamount product line, the 591D-2mm is surface-mountable and offers new case size options with 2mm maximum heights. The series currently includes voltage ratings of 4WVdc, 6.3WVdc and 10WVdc, with ultra-low ESR ratings ranging from 0.045W to 0.100W, at 25 degrees C and 100 kHz. Devices currently in development, to be added to the product line at a later date, feature voltage ratings of 16WVdc, 20WVdc, 25WVdc and 35WVdc, and will provide ESR ratings as low as 0.060W.

The tantalum 591D-2mm Series provides a wide capacitance range-from 15uF to 680uF, with capacitance tolerance options of +/-10 percent and +/-20 percent. The 591D-2mm Series also provides an extended operating temperature range of -55 to 85 degrees C, with two-thirds of the voltage derating to 125 degrees C.

The 591D-2mm capacitors are supplied standard with lead-free terminations. Available in three case options, the devices range in size from 7.1mm to 7.5mm in length and 3.2mm to 6.0mm in width. The series provides footprint compatibility with EIA 535BAAC and CECC 30801 molded chips.

Samples and production quantities of the 591D-2mm capacitors are available now in tape-and-reel packaging, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
