Vishay Launches Sprague 292D Tantalum Chip Capacitor

June 19, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology (Malvern, PA) has launched a new solid tantalum chip capacitor that it claims features the industry's lowest ESR rating for its size. The new Vishay Sprague 292D molded leadless chip capacitor is optimized for dc/dc power conversion and noise-filtering applications in high-end portable systems, hand-held electronic products and hearing aids.

The Sprague 292D features a 0805 footprint and is available in two case options, with either a 1.2mm or 1.55mm maximum height profile. The new device features wrap-around tin terminations and is surface-mountable. Vishay maintains that each 292D capacitor provides an ESR rating between 20 to 40 percent lower than any equivalent device on the market, with ESR values ranging from 3.5W to 5.0W at 100kHz.

Voltage rating options for the Sprague 292D are 4WVdc, 6.3WVdc and 10WVdc for devices in both case types, with capacitance levels ranging from 3.3uF to 33uF. Capacitance tolerance options of ±10 or ±20 percent are available. The devices are rated for an extended -55 to 85 degrees C operating temperature range and a derating temperature of 125 degrees C.

Samples of the full 292D product line are available now. Production quantities of specific versions of the 292D capacitors, including the 4.7uF at 10V and 10uF at 10V devices, are currently available. Production quantities of the complete 292D Series will be available in October 2001 with lead times of six to eight weeks for larger orders.
