Vishay Develops the 101 Series of Schottky Barrier Diodes

April 25, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA) has developed a new Schottky barrier diode series, the 101 Series. Vishay reports that it gives designers a choice of three reverse breakdown voltage options and four standard package types in a dozen new devices.

With maximum low forward voltage drop values ranging from 0.9V to 1V at a 15mA forward current, the new Vishay Telefunken diodes are suitable for circuits where low power consumption and a low voltage drop are required. Typical applications include steering, biasing and coupling in dc/dc converters, low-current power supplies and protection circuits.

Offered in the DO-35, MiniMELF, QuadroMELF and MicroMELF packages, the new diodes are available with minimum reverse breakdown voltages of 40V, 50V or 60V. The devices provide a leakage current of 200nA, and additionally feature a low diode capacitance value ranging from 2.0pF to 2.2pF at a 1MHz frequency. An integrated protection ring guards against static discharge.

“With its low forward voltage ratings, our new Schottky series helps to reduce power consumption in end products, and has the added benefit of being offered in a wide range of package types built by a 30-year veteran of glass packaging technology," said Manfred Wagner, senior product marketing manager for diodes. “Combined with our other Schottky series already on the market, the new barrier diodes are the latest in a comprehensive family that can address any designer's needs."

Samples and production quantities of the new Schottky barrier diode series are available now, with a lead-time of 12 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for US delivery starts at $3.05 per 100 pieces.
