Vicor Debuts New 24V Family of DC/DC Converters

December 28, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Vicor (Andover, MA) has released a 24V family of second-generation dc/dc converter modules. These modules are designed for communications, process control, defense and distributed power-systems applications. All of the new converters operate from 24V nominal input, with an input range of 18V to 36V, and have power densities up to 79W per cubic inch. These dc/dc converter modules use second-generation power processing and control and packaging technologies.

The 24V input family of dc/dc converters is in compliance with most agency approval specifications, including UL, CSA, TÜV, BABT, CE and VDE. They are suitable for worldwide use. The predefined 24V family consists of maxi- and micro-package sizes, offering output voltages of 3.3Vdc, 5Vdc, 12Vdc, 15Vdc and 28Vdc. The family offers output powers from 100W to 400W. Additional output voltages and power can be specified using the Vicor Design Assistance Computer. All of the modules incorporate high-temperature rating, wide output-voltage trim range and paralleling.

“This 24V input family continues to expand the reach of Vicor's second-generation dc/dc converters beyond existing high-density markets," stated Bob Marchetti, Vicor's senior product marketing manager. “The improved economics, reliability and sizing of second-generation units will make designing with component power attractive to many more customers."

Prices start at $0.42 per watt in 100-piece quantities. Selected units are available from stock.
