May 25, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Valence Technology Inc. (Henderson, NV) announced it has begun shipping its new lithium polymer battery components to joint venture partner Hanil Valence Co. Ltd. (Seoul). Hanil Valence will use the components to finalize the setup of its battery making equipment in Korea and will be manufacturing batteries similar to Valence's standard 65M and 65N sizes to meet the needs of computer and telecommunications customers in Korea. The purchase order is the first large-scale commercial production to be shipped from Valence's Mallusk, Northern Ireland, facility. A total of more than 35,000 meters of anode, cathode and separator material are expected to be shipped from the facility this month with initial shipments already completed. "This shipment marks an important step toward executing our plan to bring Valence's lithium polymer battery technology to the market," stated Valence Chairman and CEO Lev Dawson. "The capacity of this material and the design flexibility it provides will allow the batteries to be used in a variety of new and existing applications."Hanil Valence Executive Vice President J.T. Kim stated, "After our rigorous evaluation of batteries using Valence's groundbreaking lithium polymer technology, we are most impressed with the high quality of the product. The battery performance exceeds identified customer requirements, and we anticipate that this order represents only the beginning quantity of what will ultimately be required to satisfy customer demands."Valence plans to be able to supply a world market with product from the Northern Ireland and Korean plants.
