UQM Technologies Gets DOE Modular Inverter Contract

July 21, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

UQM Technologies Inc. (Frederick, CO), a developer of alternative energy technologies, received a contract from the US Department of Energy (DOE) to develop a 5 kW modular inverter under the Small Business Innovation Research Program.

In addition to converting dc power from photovoltaic systems to ac power, inverters can serve the same purpose for reciprocating engine generators, wind turbines, microturbines and fuel cells. In order to cover all the possible applications, the company expects to develop a high-frequency product capable of accommodating voltage inputs of 36 V to 360 V, all while offering an inverter that is small, low cost and highly efficient.
