Unitrode Intros UCC5628 Multimode SCSI Terminator

May 19, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Unitrode Corp. (Merrimack, NH) introduced a new 14-line Multimode SCSI Terminator designed to ease the transition from single-ended to LVD SCSI and in particular Ultra 3/160m SCSI. Unitrode's new device supports the activities of the SCSI Trade Association, which is now promoting their new Ultra3 standard. The UCC5628 is claimed to allow for the most Termpwr cable drop in the industry (2.75V to 5.25V) and offer the highest bandwidth available (over 500MHZ). In addition, the device's 14-line single active terminator contains all functions required to terminate, auto detect, and switch modes for Ultra2 and Ultra3 bus architectures. Other features include a 48-pin LQFP package and LVD and SE status indicator LED drives to permit visual bus status indication whether the terminator is connected or disconnected. The UCC5628 automatically senses the bus, via DIFFB, and switches the termination to either SE or LVD SCSI, depending on which type of devices are connected to the bus. The device is priced at $5.40 per piece in quantities of 1,000 or more.
