Unipower Intros MicroMod MVT DC/DC Converter Series

July 07, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Unipower Corp. (Coral Springs, FL) has rolled out their new MicroMod MVT Series dc/dc converters, featuring triple outputs from 49W to 141W. The new converters are Unipower's first entry into the high-density dc/dc converter market, brought about as a result of the acquisition of Power Micro Corp. in April 1999. The MVT Series offers power densities up to 23W per cubic inch and operates at a constant 450kHz switching frequency. Other features include independent, floating auxiliary outputs, five-sided metal shielding and operation down to -40 degrees C. There are 24 different standard models to choose from in the MVT Series. The main output voltage is 2.5, 3.3 or 5Vdc with output power dependent on nominal input voltage rating. Main output current is 7, 16 or 20A for nominal input voltages of 12, 24 or 48Vdc respectively. Actual wide input voltage ranges are 9 to 18Vdc, 20 to 30Vdc or 36 to 72Vdc. Independent auxiliary outputs are 5, 12 and 15Vdc at 1.5A each. The main output has remote sensing, and all outputs can be externally adjusted by +/-10 percent. Protective features on the MVT include output current limiting and unlimited duration short circuit protection with automatic recovery. The 5V main output has over-voltage protection with automatic recovery. Calculated MTBF exceeds 500,000 hours. Other features include a logic inhibit input to remotely turn the converters on and off. Line and load regulations are both 1 percent. The module size is an industry standard 0.55 x 22.4 x 4.6 inches. Input conducted EMI meets Bellcore, FCC and EN55022 level A. The units operate over the case temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees C. The MVT Series pricing is $99 each in OEM quantities.
