Unipower Intros L5TVNR & L7TVNR Front-End/Rectifier Rack Systems

June 27, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Unipower Corp. (Coral Springs, FL) has introduced two new front-end/rectifier rack systems, designated L5TVNR for a 24Vdc system and L7TVNR for a 48Vdc system. These devices can be used as rectifiers for float charging a battery or as front-ends to power a dc power distribution bus. The output adjustment range is 20 to 29Vdc for the 24V unit and 40 to 58Vdc for the 48V unit. The rack system accepts up to three of Unipower's TVN Series 1000W hot-plug front-end modules to deliver 3000W in a non-redundant mode or 2000W in a 2+1 redundant configuration. The system features front panel mounted independent dc on/off switches for each power module. The rear of the rack features three IEC ac connectors for three line cord connections as well as an output power connector and a signal connector for system interface. The power modules that are use are Unipower's standard 1000W, hot swap models, the TVN5000 and TVN7000 which offer outputs of 24Vdc and 48Vdc, respectively. These standard modules feature 5.6W per cubic inch power density and have input power factor correction to 0.99, meeting EN61000-3-2. Each module has an integral isolation diode, two cooling fans and high-reliability hot-plug connector. The modules also feature programmed output power limiting for compatible operation with dc/dc converter loads. The system can be operated as a battery-backup system with a direct-coupled battery of 24V or 48V. The L5TVNR and L7TVNR UL-listed racks are available from stock and are priced at $395 in OEM quantities. The TVN power modules are priced at $550 in OEM quantities.
