Ultralife Batteries Inc. (Newark, NY) announced that two standard sizes of its ultra-light, Ultralife Polymer brand rechargeable cells are now available for sale to qualified OEMs and distributors worldwide. Cell model UBC443483 is 4.4mm (less than 3/16") thick, weighs 21.5g and has a rated capacity of 725mAh. Model UBC543483, at 5.4mm (less than 1/4") thick and 26g is rated at 930mAh. Both cells have a length of 83mm and a width of 34mm. Ultralife can also produce a range of polymer cells possessing the same length and width, but with varying thickness.

According to Ultralife, this thickness, at less than 1mm, makes it the world's thinnest polymer cell available. The standard cells, while originally designed for cellular and GSM phones, can also be used in a wide variety of portable applications in the wireless communications, computing, medical, security, military and aerospace markets.

"Product designers have always said that thin, light, high-energy batteries would greatly enhance the design and capabilities of their products, allowing them to provide what today's portable electronics customers continue to demand: more powerful devices in smaller and lighter packages. Ultralife's polymer cells now provide those capabilities," commented Julius Cirin, director of marketing for Ultralife.

Ultralife has supplied sample cells off its automated high-speed production line into numerous OEMs and distributors for testing during the last few months.
