Tyco Presents New JBW Series Power Modules

July 09, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) announced its new JBW Series of power modules, offering low-cost, 30W and 50W, half-brick, dc/dc converters to workstation, computing, industrial and communications equipment manufacturers.

The JBW Series includes the JBW030 for 6A applications and the JBW050 for 10A requirements. The modules achieve efficiency levels of 82 and 84 percent, respectively, at 5Vout. The JBW030 operates over an input-voltage range of 36Vdc to 75Vdc (48V nominal)

to deliver precisely regulated outputs of 5V at 6A or 3.3V at 6.5A. The JBW050 operates over the same input range to give 5V or 3.3V at 10A. Outputs are isolated from inputs to enable versatile polarity configurations and

grounding connections.

The JBW Series incorporates a range of safety and performance features, including protection against over-temperature, over-current and over-voltage. Output ripple and noise are minimized, removing the need for additional external filtering. Remote sensing, output trim and remote on/off provide maximum flexibility for distributed power applications. The modules are encapsulated in metal cases and are capable of operating at full load in temperatures up to 100 degrees C. Threaded-through holes allow additional heatsinks to be easily added for high-temperature applications.

The JBW050 modules are priced at $38.40 and the JBW030 modules are priced at

$28.00 in high volume. Samples are available now.
