January 31, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Mesquite, TX) recently debuted the Galaxy Power System (GPS) 4848/100. Suitable for a wide variety of -48Vdc applications, the GPS 4848/100 meets power requirements ranging from 200 to 10,000A. The system operates directly from commercial power in 380/400/480Vac or 208/220/240Vac. It combines switch-mode rectifiers with dc distribution and battery connections and the Galaxy Millennium controller in an integrated system cabinet.

Tyco claims that benefits of the GPS 4848/100 include exceptional power density, a front-access design, and modular components that enable incremental system growth. In addition, the system has been designed for streamlined installation and convenience. The GPS 4848/100 has automated system setup and simplified plant management. The system servers as the single interface point for rectifier control, alarm and status reporting, as well as battery management and diagnostics. Galaxy also offers a number of optional intelligent capabilities, including remote access, extended monitoring and control, and battery reserve time prediction.

The GPS 4848/100 measures 600 x 2,134 x 2,274mm. It weighs approximately 250kg per cabinet and is UL-listed and CE marked.
