April 26, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems Inc. (Dallas, TX) announced its new 1U high, 19 in rack-mounted SC3 spring controller, which is designed to fit in the GALAXY™ Power System (GPS) 4804, 4812 and 4824, and the INFINITY™ Serial Power System H, C and S. It also fits other battery plants for remote control and monitoring of medium and large communications center equipment such as power plants, battery strings, ac supply cabinets, auxiliary plants and environmental conditions.

The SC3 controller is designed to operate continuously in temperature conditions from –5 °C to +55 °C with input-voltage ranges from 36 V to 60 V. It can be used to monitor and control the NP Series and 596 Series rectifiers as well as four battery strings. The SC3 controller has a menu-driven LCD display that provides access to two main input switches, ac input voltages, plant output voltage and current, maximum 24 switch-mode rectifiers, rectifier individual current and current limit point set, dc distribution status, and ambient parameters. The controller also supports four LVD contactors, battery recharge current limits, battery slope thermal compensation, shorted cell detection, discharge test with reserve time prediction, battery discharge voltage profile and history, load hourly and trend statistics, alarm history, configurable alarm output relays, and configurable alarm inputs.

The SC3 controller will be available in April 2005 with a list price starting at $260 per unit.
