Tyco Electronics Announces GPS4812 Power System

February 11, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Mesquite, TX) announced a new Galaxy Power System, the GPS4812, which is suitable for use in -48Vdc applications. The GPS4812 provides power ranging from 100A to 400A in a half-height cabinet for mounting on top of VRLA batteries, up to 800A in a full-height single cabinet, or up to 1,200A in a dual-cabinet arrangement. Either a Galaxy Vector controller or a Galaxy Millennium controller, depending on the system configuration, can be used to control the GPS4812.

Tyco reports that 596A, 50A switch-mode rectifier modules provide the power for the new system. This power is distributed via a variety of distribution options. The system operates directly from commercial power in 208/220/240Vac single-phase or three-phase at either 50Hz or 60Hz.

Features of the GPS4812 include high power density, high efficiency, and modular plug-and-play components. The system is entirely front-accessible, with integrated system cabinets and customized control and monitoring. The GPS4812 comes with an optional low-voltage battery and is designed for global applications. It is UL-listed, CE-marked and VDE-licensed. The half-cabinet version weighs 300 pounds and measures 42.5" x 23.6" x 19.7". The full-height cabinet weighs 550 pounds and measures 82.7" x 23.6" x 19.7".
