TT electronics Intros New CCR Series Resistors

October 21, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

The IRC Wirewound and Film Technologies Division of TT electronics plc (Boone, NC) introduced a series of compact carbon composition resistors capable of handling overload voltages up to 1,000V and energy pulses up to 35J, providing design engineers with a direct replacement for hot-molded carbon composition components. Designated the CCR Series, the high-energy resistors are suitable for surge protection and high-peak-voltage applications, including defibrillators, automotive ignition systems and industrial power supplies.

Developed by IRC Inc.’s (Corpus Christi, TX) sister company Welwyn Components Ltd. (UK), the CCR Series resistors are rated for 1W at 25 degrees C with a maximum overload voltage of 1,000V, a limiting element voltage of 500V, a pulse-handling rating up to 35J, and an operating temperature range from –40 to +150 degrees C. The resistors are constructed from a solid rod of conductive carbon ceramic material, the composition of which can be adjusted to produce the required resistance values. The ceramic rods are fitted with end caps and welded termination wires, and the component body is coated with a UL 94-0 protective epoxy coating.

Pricing for the CCR Series resistors ranges from $0.50 to $3.00 based on production volumes. Lead times are from stock to 10 to 12 weeks.
