Tripp Lite Announces Upgraded PowerAlert UPS Software

December 12, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Tripp Lite (Chicago, IL) announces the release of an upgraded PowerAlert Software, version 11, which they claim is the first UPS power management software to facilitate network power control from any web-enabled device, including wireless phones and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs).

The new version of PowerAlert provides a secure Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) web server that simplifies messaging into a text-only format that is compatible with all

wireless Internet browsers. Information Systems personnel can then check UPS status, reboot outlets, or reset critical settings from any Web-enabled device.

PowerAlert Enterprise for Windows NT/2000 is bundled with PowerAlert and can display all networked UPSs in a single icon tree format, with icons displayed alone or with detailed reports of power conditions. When a user-specified alarm is triggered by a UPS, the corresponding icon changes color. Identification of power outages or

trouble spots across a network can also be made from a web-enabled remote location. Corrective action, such as rebooting the affected system, can be taken remotely with most Tripp Lite UPS systems.

"Tripp Lite is aware that even in the most critical network environment it may not be possible to have IS personnel on hand or at their workstations 24 hours a day, seven days a week," says Mike Delgrosso, Tripp Lite's director of software development. "We also know that power problems and outages can strike at any time. PowerAlert Version 11 can be configured to contact an IS manager away from the office or at home via pager or e-mail. He or she can then react to a situation immediately by logging on to a secure website via cell phone or handheld computer and make adjustments to preserve network

power integrity."

A CD-ROM including PowerAlert is bundled free of charge with most Tripp Lite UPS systems. It is also available as a free download from Tripp Lite's website.
