Toshiba Launches Three-Phase Brushless Motor Driver IC for Appliances

Toshiba Corporation has launched a sine-wave driver IC, TB6585AFTG, for the three-phase dc brushless motors used in the fan motors of home appliances that require quiet operation and low energy consumption, such as ventilation fans and electric fans. Mass production shipment starts immediately. The integrated PWM controller circuit of driver IC generates a sine wave, realizing a quiet, high efficiency motor drive.

These driver ICs deliver up to 1.8A of current and operate over a voltage range of 4.5Vdc to 42Vdc, with a maximum voltage rating of 45Vdc. Features include: Low output resistance Ron (P-channel + N-channel) = 0.7Ω (typical); Built-in hall bias power supply Vrefout=4.4V (typical), 20mA (maximum); Built-in hall amplifier (corresponding to hall device); Lead angle control; Current control; Under voltage lockout circuit; and Thermal shutdown circuit.

The TB6585AFTG adopts a small, leadless, heat-dissipating QFN48 package (7.0mm-7.0mm-0.9mm) that realizes the same absolute maximum ratings for voltage and current as existing products. The driver IC contributes to equipment downsizing and lower PCB costs by reducing the required mounting area by approximately 75%.
