TI Presents TPS40070/TPS40071 DC-DC Controllers

February 18, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Building on its TPS40K™ line of dc-dc controllers, Texas Instruments Inc. (TI, Dallas, TX) announced its new TPS40070 and TPS40071 synchronous-buck dc-dc controllers that support input voltages from 4.5 V to 28 V. The controllers leverage TI's Predictive Gate Drive™ technology to achieve up to 96 percent power efficiency and ease circuit design in non-isolated power systems in networking, telecom, wireless base stations and computer server applications.

The TPS40070 and TPS40071 single-chip controllers enhance operation with user-programmable power supply features such as under-voltage lockout; soft-start; and high-side, short-circuit protection. For added flexibility, the TPS40070 is offered in a source-only mode and the TPS40071 with full source sink operation. Each device has programmable fixed frequency up to 1 MHz and voltage feed forward to provide greater line regulation over the entire input-voltage range.

The dc-dc controllers come in a 16-pin, TSSOP PowerPad™ package, and are available now. Pricing for the TPS40070 and TPS40071 devices is $1.35 each in quantities of 1,000 units.
