TI Debuts TPS2490 and TPS2491 Controllers

January 05, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Texas Instruments Inc. (TI, Dallas, TX) announced TPS2490 and TPS2491 positive high-voltage, hot-swap power managers with programmable power-limit and current-limit functions. Simplifying high-voltage system design, the 10-pin, 3mm x 5mm controllers take advantage of a new 0.7µm silicon-on-insulator analog process to ensure complete MOSFET safe operating area protection.

The TPS2490 and TPS2491 hot-swap managers are suitable to support and protect emerging positive voltage, distributed power systems that operate between 9V and 80V, such as 12V, 24V and 48V server backplanes; storage area networks; medical systems; plug-in modules; and wireless base stations.

The TPS2490 is shipping in volume in a 10-pin MSOP (TSSOP), and is priced at $1.70 per 1,000 units. Evaluation modules of the TPS2490 can be obtained in less than 24 hours.
