July 01, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

An employee shot and killed three co-workers and wounded four others at a Modine Manufacturing Co. (Racine, WI) manufacturing plant on the outskirts of Jefferson City, MO, then drove into town and killed himself in a confrontation with police on Tuesday, July 1, 2003, near the Jefferson City Police Station.

Two employees of Modine Manufacturing died at the plant after the shooting late Tuesday night. A third died later at a hospital. Four other employees were wounded. The victims were found throughout the building. Their conditions are not immediately available.

"The loss of any life is terrible," said Mick Lucareli, manager of business development and corporate communications for Modine. "We just want to find out the details as soon as we can." Lucareli stated that operations at the Jefferson City plant had been suspended at least for the rest of the week.

CEO David Rayburn said, "We are deeply saddened and are grieving the loss of our fellow Modine employees. Modine's focus at this point is on supporting our employees and their families through this very tragic event."
