TDK Semiconductor Unveils New 71M6511 Power Meter IC

November 29, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

TDK Semiconductor Corp. (Irvine, CA), a leader in mixed-signal communication semiconductors, unveiled the new 71M6511 power meter IC for its system-on-chip (SOC) product line, which integrates a 21-bit, delta-sigma converter with three sensor channels, 32-bit compute engine, MCU, RTC, LCD driver, and precision voltage reference. The 71M6511 is suitable for tamper-resistant, residential, time-of-use and pre-payment metering.

Equipped with on-chip, digital temperature compensation and TDK's patent-pending Single Converter Technology™, the device delivers linearity over 2,000:1 current range, and under adverse environmental conditions. Requiring a single 3.3 V capacitive supply circuit, the 71M6511 consumes less than 9 mA in mission and 4 µA in battery backup modes.

Pricing for the new 71M6511 power meter IC starts at $2.60 in 10,000-unit quantities. The device can be produced in 0.5% and 0.1% accuracy options, and is now available for sampling in a 64-pin, LQFP package.
