Taiyo Yuden Intros LPT18 Switch-Mode Power Supply

May 18, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Taiyo Yuden USA Inc. (Schaumburg, IL) introduced its new LPT18, an ac-input, dual-dc output, switch-mode power supply that meets the European Union's 2002/95/EC Directive on the "Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) in Electrical and Electronic Equipment" that will go into effect July 1, 2006. Designed for 0 °C to 50 °C operation, the convection-cooled LPT18 provides 18 W of power with outputs of +5.1 Vdc (3.0 A) and -5 Vdc (1.5 A) at up to 85% efficiency.

The LPT18 provides a wide input-voltage range of 100 Vac to 240 Vac (47 Hz to 63 Hz, single phase) and maximum input currents of 0.4 ARMS and 0.2 ARMS at 115 Vac and 230 Vac, respectively, at rated load. The LPT18's single-switch, fly-back converter operates in a discontinuous variable-frequency mode to provide a transient response of ±3%. The input transient protection provided by the LPT18's MOV transient/surge absorber meets EN61000-4-5 Level 3 surge withstand specifications, and isolation between output terminals and chassis ground is better than 20 MΩ at 100 Vdc.

The LPT18 measures 4.5 in x 1.25 in x 1.1 in (114.3 mm x 31.8 mm x 27.9 mm). It is compliant with MIL-STD-810F shock and vibration standards, CISPR 11 and 22, FCC Part 15B, EN-61000 EMC standards, and other domestic and international certifications, including UL, CSA and IEC. The LPT18 is priced at approximately $10 each in OEM quantities. Available now, delivery is stock to 10 weeks ARO.
