Taiyo Yuden Expands DC/DC Converter Line with the RD-0687

July 18, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Taiyo Yuden (USA) Inc. (San Marcos, CA), formerly Xentek Power Systems, announced a new addition to its line of ultra-compact high reliability dc/dc converters for use in LCD bias supplies. The new RD-0687 was designed specifically to provide the bias voltage required by Epson digital thin film diode active matrix LCDs. The RD module offers a nominal 5Vdc (4.5V-5.5V ) input and an adjustable output from ±30V to ±38 Vdc at 30mA, with a ripple of only 100mVp-p. The RD-0687's ultra compact package measures 28.5mm by 20mm by 8mm. The RD-0687 is claimed to employ the latest circuit design and advanced ferrite and ceramic technologies to produce an exceptional size-to-power output ratio characterized by outstanding reliability. The RD-0687 provides rugged industrial temperature specifications of ±10 to 70 degrees C (operating) and ±20 to 80 degrees C (storage). Mean time between failure (MBTF) has been calculated to be more than 1,000,000 hours. Manufactured to ISO 9001 standards, the RD-0687 is priced at $5.00 each in OEM quantities.
