Taiyo Yuden Announces LQ Series of Inductors

January 19, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Taiyo Yuden Inc. (Schaumburg, IL) announced a new line of wire-wound chip inductors, the LQ Series. Designed for use in power supply circuits in laptop computers, cellular phones, PDA equipment and digital cameras, the LQ Series inductors have low dc resistance, high current ratings and a small form factor. The series consists of 39 separate model numbers in 0805, 0806 and 1007 EIA case sizes offering inductance values from 1 to 1,000µH.

Taiyo Yuden reports that the inductors are designed with a ‘zero dead space' structure that uses the core ends as the external electrode. This design permits the use of thicker windings and a larger ferrite core. The company claims that the design reduces dc resistance, increases current ratings and facilitates miniaturization. Ferrite powder, added to the exterior resin coating of the device, provides magnetic shielding. The component has a five-sided electrode and a non-directional structure to enable high-speed mounting.

The 39 available models in standard EIA case sizes include seven models in 0805, 13 models in 0803, and 19 models in 1007. Inductance ranges go from 1 to 100µH in the 0805 and 0806-case-size components, and from 1 to 1,000µH in the 1007-size components. LQ Series components offer current ratings from 15 to 500mA, and Rdc values as low as 0.06 ohms. They have a typical Q value of 10,0, though some 0805 components offer a Q of 5.

Pricing starts at $0.05 per piece in OEM quantities. The LQ Series is available now, with delivery in 8 weeks ARO.
