STRG Announces New ESM Series DC-DC Converters

March 30, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Small Technology Research Group (STRG, Taichung, Taiwan) announced its new ESM Series of dc-dc converters, delivering high current and power in an industry-standard 2 x 1 sized package. The ESM Series enables communications and networking OEMs to minimize board space, reduce production costs and support the on-going migration toward lower supply voltages for ICs and microprocessors.

The ESM converters operate over two wide input-voltage ranges of 18 Vdc to 36 Vdc and 36 Vdc to 75 Vdc to provide regulated outputs of 1.8 V, 2.5 V 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V and ±12 V. The ESM Series takes advantage of synchronous rectification technology to deliver high efficiency at low-voltage-high-current applications. A single-side components design means that the ESM is suitable for SMT processes due to its low barycenter structure and light weight.

The ESM modules are available in a broad range of output voltages, from 5.0 V at 7 A, 3.3 V at 10 A, 2.5 V at 10 A, 1.8 V at 12 A, 12 V at 2.5 A and ±12 V at 1.25 A. A single-side components design allows the module to adapt to the popular BGA re-flow process.

The ESM modules are capable of operating in temperatures ranging from –40 °C to +85 °C with forced air, and incorporate a range of safety features to protect against abnormal inputs, outputs and temperatures. Priced at $28.40 in 1,000-unit quantities, samples are available now.
