January 11, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

The new USB6B1/2 devices from STMicroelectronics Inc. (Lexington, MA) include a diode bridge and an integrated Transil diode configured to protect USB (Universal Serial Bus) data lines against positive and negative transient overvoltages and to keep the voltage between the power conductors within safe limits. The USB6B devices are designed to provide ESD protection up to 15kV, compatible with the IEC1000-4-2 standard. The pin-out for both packages is directly compatible with that of the USB connector. Separate input and output pins are employed. The USB6B1/2 is priced at $0.37 in quantities of 500,000.
