Stackpole Resistor Offers 2W Power Rating With Low Heat Rise

Stackpole announced its RHC series, which is said to offer design engineers a cost effective, electrically efficient, and dimensionally small option for 2W resistor requirements. It offers this power rating over a wide resistance range of 0.1Ω to 1mΩ which is said to be unlike many current sensing resistors. In addition, at 2W of power, the company claims that the RHC series will typically run considerably cooler than other chip resistors of the same size, even those that are also rated for 2W of power. The temperature difference of 30 to 40°C less for the RHC allows downsizing instead of causing problems for other heat sensitive components.

Applications and markets for the RHC series are said to be quite broad. The main applications with the need for this type of device would be professional, commercial, and industrial power systems, controls, and industrial and commercial automation. Other markets and end products include medical applications such as physical therapy equipment, biomed, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and dispensing equipment. The RHC may be used for audio applications, high speed communication, thermostats and HVAC, metering, monitoring, and detection, as well as for avionics and instrumentation.
