April 27, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Solectria Corp. (Wilmington, MA) signed a one-year, $1.3 million contact to provide electric and hybrid-electric bus drive systems to Advanced Vehicle Systems (Chattanooga, TN). Advanced Vehicle is a leading manufacturer of electric and hybrid-electric buses.

The agreement covers motors, motor controllers and other electric vehicle components for nearly 90 buses. With the agreement in place, a total of more than 150 electric and hybrid-electric buses powered by Solectria components will be on the road throughout the US, Latin America and Asia by the spring of 2001.

Several Solectria vehicles will be participating next month in the 12th annual Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) American Tour de Sol electric and hybrid-electric vehicle road rally. This year's NESEA Tour starts in New York City on May 12, and ends in Washington, DC, on May 19. Numerous opportunities to see the competing vehicles are available throughout the week.

Solectria will also be participating in a technical symposium co-sponsored by NESEA and the Society of Automotive Engineers entitled, Hybrid-Electric Vehicles in the Bus and Truck Markets: New Ways of Building Better Heavy-Duty Vehicles, to be held immediantly prior to the NESEA Tour on May 11-12, at the Crowne Plaza LaGuardia Hotel in East Elmhurst, NY.
