Slim 180W Desktop Adapter Meets Latest 62368-1 Standards

August 15, 2018 by Paul Shepard

TRUMPower has released the new 180W TFA180 series of ac-dc desktop power adapters to its product line-up. Using the power supply ensures early compliance to the new IEC 62368-1 hazard-based, performance-oriented standards, which will be replacing the current IEC 60950-1 safety standards on December 20, 2020.

The TFA180 Class I units are furnished with an IEC 320/C14 or IEC 320/C6 ac Inlet. The power adapters are available with 19V, 19.5V for laptops, 24V or 48V outputs, making them suitable for a wide range of applications. A 54V/3.33A output is also available for the C14 ac inlet power supplies.  Standard output connector is a 4-pin DIN plug but TRUMPower offers additional connector and cable options upon customer's request.

The TFA180 series is approved by UL/cUL and TUV to the latest ITE standards, including UL/IEC/EN 62368-1. The power adapter complies with EMC and immunity standards including EN 55022/FCC/VCCI class B (conducted and radiated emissions), EN 61000-3-2, EN 61000-3-3, EN 61000-4-2, EN 61000-4-3, EN 61000-4-4, EN 61000-4-5, EN 61000-4-8, EN 61000-4-11.

With efficiency of 89% minimum @ full load and no load power consumption of 0.21W maximum, the series satisfies Energy star 2.0, DOE level VI and ErP stage II requirements. It carries CE marking and is RoHS compliant. Packaged in a low profile black-colored plastic enclosure, the unit has a size of just 5.96 x 2.98 x 1 inches.

The power adapter accepts a 90- to 264-Vac continuous input range and 0.9 minimum power factor. Withstand voltage is specified at 1,500Vac from input-to-output and 1,500Vac from input-to-ground. With touch leakage current being lower than 250µA at 264Vac, the TFA180 power adapter can operate at an ambient temperature range of 0°C to +40°C and operating humidity spans from 20% to 80% non-condensing.

Its MTBF is higher than 500,000 hours at full load and 25°C ambient, calculated per Telecordia SR-332. The power supply is protected against over voltage, over current, and short circuit conditions.
